Whisker & Oil

Renaissance pet portraits: your dog or cat as 16th-century nobility

A Renaissance pet portrait shows your dog or cat as a 16th-century noble in the style of an oil court portrait: velvet or silk, a white ruff, an ermine-trimmed collar or a small crown, in soft window light. Whisker & Oil makes it with AI from one photo, asking the AI to keep your pet's face and markings.

What your portrait looks like

Visible brushwork and a varnished sheen, with one of four court looks picked automatically for each photo:

  • Crimson velvet with gold brocade, a white lace ruff and a jewelled gold chain, before a heavy draped curtain
  • A midnight-blue velvet robe with an ermine-trimmed collar and a small jewelled crown, before a tall arched stone window
  • Emerald-green silk with slashed sleeves and a pearl-trimmed collar, with a woven tapestry behind
  • Black velvet with a wide white ruff and a gold medallion, on a plain deep-brown background

Who it suits

  • Anyone who wants a grand, slightly funny portrait for the wall
  • Dogs and cats alike: the examples above include both
  • A gift: it is a digital download, ready as soon as you pay

Which photo to use

One clear photo of one pet, face visible, in good light. The AI is asked to frame it head and shoulders and to keep the head angle of your photo: a profile stays a profile, and a front view stays a front view.

Royal Renaissance questions

Can I choose the costume?

Not directly. Each portrait gets one of four court looks, picked automatically for each photo: crimson velvet with a lace ruff, a blue robe with a small crown, emerald silk, or black velvet with a white ruff. A different photo may get a different look.

Is a Renaissance portrait the same as a royal pet portrait?

It is one kind. Royal Renaissance dresses your pet as 16th-century nobility, in velvet or silk with a ruff, ermine or a crown. For a 19th-century military dress uniform, choose Regal General.

Does it work for cats?

Yes. The tabby cat above is one of the examples, with its own photo in the corner. You see a free preview of your own cat before you pay, so you can check first.

Will my pet keep its own face?

The AI is asked to keep your pet's face, markings and colours, and the pose and head angle of your photo; the costume, the setting and the oil-painting look are added. You see the preview before you pay, so you only buy a portrait you recognise.
